Background

My name is Emily Brunick and this is my fifteenth year teaching and my seventh year teaching in Manhattan Beach Unified. I have taught 4th grade at Pacific, 5th grade at Meadows and a year in 6th grade at MBMS. I have also taught second, third and fourth grade at a local public school in Emeryville a suburb outside of Oakland, CA. At that school, I also played many other roles such as being a member of the Instructional Leader Team, being a BTSA Mentor for beginning teachers, mentoring many student-teachers and being the liaison and instructional guide for the Lucy Calkin's writing workshop model for teachers K-5.

Family

I live in the tree section in Manhattan Beach with my husband Mike (born and raised in Manhattan Beach), twelve-year-old daughter Olivia (at MBMS as a seventh grader), ten-year-old son Jake (at Pacific as a fifth grader) and seven-year-old daughter Lucie (at Pacific as a second grader). I have two dogs Juniper and Phoebe. My daughter Olivia has found her passion for art, volleyball and softball; while my son has an extreme passion for Dodger Baseball, USC Football, playing cards, magna-tiles, legos and Monopoly. My littlest one, Lucie, has proven to be very independent (almost by force since she's the youngest of three) and loves to play softball (because her older sister does), soccer and skateboarding.

Education

I obtained my Teaching Credential and Master’s of Arts in Education at Mills College in 2008. Before my teaching career, I lived and worked in New York City for eight years as an Editor at Vanity Fair magazine and then Vogue magazine. I was born in Toronto, Canada but moved to Pacific Palisades during High school. So I identify as being part Angelino. I received my Bachelors of Arts in Psychology at a Canadian University named University of Western, Ontario.

Hobbies

In my free time I enjoy taking my dogs for walks, exercising, watching the Dodgers, doing yoga, trying out new restaurants, cooking and going to concerts

I am really looking forward to being apart of a stellar fifth grade team at Pacific, teaching your Star Student and watching them shine!
